Karnataka Bus Fare Hike: BMTC Fares Rise by ₹10, KSRTC by ₹9
Karnataka has announced a bus fare hike across all four state transport corporations. BMTC fares will increase by up to ₹10 and KSRTC fares by ₹9, while AC and airport bus services will also become more expensive.
According to the minister, fares on Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses have been increased by a maximum of ₹9, while Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) urban bus fares will rise by up to ₹10.
The revised fares will affect ordinary and premium bus services, including air-conditioned buses operating within Bengaluru and services connecting the city to Kempegowda International Airport.
BMTC Bus Fares Increased by Up to ₹10
According to PTI-Bhasha, Minister Byrathi Suresh said the minimum fare for BMTC buses in Bengaluru has been increased from ₹6 to ₹10, while the maximum fare has been raised from ₹35 to ₹45.
The maximum fare for AC buses has also been increased from ₹75 to ₹90. Meanwhile, passengers travelling on AC buses operating to Kempegowda International Airport will have to pay more, as the maximum fare has been revised from ₹405 to ₹425.
KSRTC Bus Fares Increased by ₹9
Speaking to the media, Suresh said the governments of Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra had also increased bus fares, prompting Karnataka to revise its rates as well.
He attributed the fare hike to rising diesel prices, stating that KSRTC bus fares had been increased by a maximum of ₹9. Fares for premium services, including Rajahamsa and AC buses, have been determined by taking competitive market rates into consideration.
The state government is already providing free travel to women on ordinary government buses anywhere within Karnataka under its 'Shakti' scheme. However, the revised fare structure will increase travel costs across the state's government-operated bus services, with the new rates scheduled to take effect from Wednesday midnight.
